Allison's Breast Cancer Journey
Donation protected
In March of 2021, our family received heartbreaking news and our lives flipped upside down. Allison was diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m sure many can relate to hearing devasting news, you are frantically gathering information in the hopes that you are making informed decisions. We were saddened, shocked, and overwhelmed. We knew we had to process the news and explore treatment options. Ultimately, Allison decided to receive treatment locally and at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago.
Allison tested positive for the BCRA2 gene, a gene mutation that increases the likelihood of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Since Allison is young, the plan was to treat her quite aggressively. Her treatment plan consisted of five months of chemotherapy, bilateral mastectomy, five weeks of radiation, hysterectomy, and most recently she underwent reconstructive surgery.
Allison is a social worker and a humanitarian at heart. Anyone who knows her can attest to her kind and generous spirit. Her work is very important to her. She dedicates time and resources to improving the lives of others. While she is nearing the end of her journey, her latest surgery requires significant recovery so that she can focus on healing. She is currently on medical leave and will be unpaid for a portion of this time. Please consider contributing to help alleviate some of the financial stress she is facing. This is not an easy ask, but much of what she has endured has placed her outside of her comfort zone.
Allison is so grateful for ALL the support she receives on so many levels – emotionally, mentally, and physically. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
