Support my son James through a spinal cord injury
Donation protected
Hi, my name Line and I am fundraising for my son James 29 who has had a tragic accident and has left him a T5 complete paraplegic.
James is the youngest of three boys to myself and my husband Keith. James like many young men was not living his best life at the time and was unfortunately at the wrong place at the wrong time and he suffered a fall from a fourth floor balcony which resulted in a broken leg and paralysis which now we have had confirmation that he is in fact a paraplegic. It was very shocking to hear about his accident especially on the heels of our middle sons workplace motor vehicle accident all happening during the Christmas season.
As James prepares for discharge from the Glenrose Rehabilitation Centre in Edmonton AB, we have been working closely with many doctors, social workers, Psychiatrist etc. James is doing quite well adjusting to life in a wheelchair, practicing all the new life skills he will need when he leaves the hospital, he will need to continue with many of these resources as the days, weeks and months come after discharge and his social worker has begun to help him reach out and apply for financial assistance, funding for supplies etc which is great, however even financial assistance is always short when you need specialized equipment, including a wheelchair accessible place to call home, so I am humbly reaching out today to ask for help for our son James.
My husband and I are trying to help in many ways, unfortunately we do not have enough funds to adequately assist at this time as we just recently relocated from BC to AB this past summer to be near family as I was feeling burnt out dealing with Covid as a health care worker and taking on the responsibility of raising two teenage grandsons for the past 3 1/2 years.
We are hoping to be able to bridge the gap between the funds he may get from AISH (Assistance income for the severely handicapped) and any other government assistance, some of his supplies will be covered by Alberta Health Services is my understanding. We are trying to raise funds to help him get set up in an independent housing situation, so move in costs including damage deposit, some furniture, and costs for equipment that may not be covered, a ramp for our home so he can come visit and all the other things that I can’t even imagine until we begin this journey as James starts his new life out in the real world!
I understand that it’s been a very difficult few years for most of us and everyone is feeling the crunch of Covid, if you can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated please know that there are many ways to help others in need whether it be financial, information, resources, kind words/vibes, prayers … I know we will be greatly blessed by all of you regardless of your giving, Thank You
