Peyton Update: 3/30/2024
Peyton has been in the hospital for 21 days so far with no discharge date insight. It was confirmed Sunday night that she has typhlitis but she is now negative for c-diff. Typhlitis is a very serious illness. Peyton has had a fever everyday since being admitted, along with a lot of pain. She is still receiving IV nutrition since she is not allowed to have anything by mouth. When she fevers it is causing her heart rate to spike higher than the doctors would like to see so the ICU is watching her to see if they need to move her to their floor. Since being in the hospital she also developed a cold that requires the use of oxygen when she is sleeping. Please pray for Peyton's healing and comfort from this nasty illness she is facing.

Peyton is a 6 year old from South Jersey. On May 25th she was sent home from kindergarten with a fever and a headache. After a visit with her pediatrician, blood work was performed. The blood work revealed her numbers were low and her parents took her straight to CHOP. She was admitted to the Hematology Floor where her initial work up started. She was scheduled for a bone marrow test, but it was cancelled due to her numbers elevating and no more fever. She was discharged from CHOP on June 3rd, only to spike a fever that evening and return to Inspira Vineland.
She was admitted back to CHOP on June 21st. On June 22nd, a bone marrow test was completed. On June 23rd the results were B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. On June 24th Peyton had her chemo-port and a spinal tap procedure, and her first dose of chemo in her port. Her second dose of chemo is June 27th and her third dose on June 30th. She is on a 28-day cycle of chemo where she will receive treatment 1-2 times per week. She will travel to Voorhees on Tuesdays for bloodwork and Fridays for chemo and spinal taps.
By the end of the 28-day cycle she should be leukemia free, but treatment will continue for 29 months with 6-8 months of intense chemo through the port. She has already had two blood transfusions and any blood donations would be welcomed.
