Hi, my name is Rachel and I am fundraising for Melissa Trybell.

As many as you know ,Melissa has been living with diabetes and underwent a kidney transplant last year- a life - changing milestone. The next step in her journey was a pancreas transplant, which had the potential to free her from diabetes entirely and significantly improve her quality of life.

This specialized procedure is only performed in Toronto. To be considered , Melissa had to travel there for extensive testing and consultations which was not fully covered by insurance. After successfully completing this initial process, she was approved and placed on the waiting list .

What she didn't expect was how quickly things would move.

On Sunday May 5, after only being on the wait list for just over a week , an organ became available. She was told that she wanted this organ she would need to make her way to Toronto immediately as this is the only location in Canada that does this type of surgery.

The complex surgery lasted over 5 hours, followed by a 6 day stay in the hospital to monitor her progress. In addition to the hospital stay she is also required to stay an additional 5-6 day in a nearby hotel for the follow-up appointments and monitoring that is necessary as part of this procedure.

Because of the sudden nature of the transplant calls, there is no way to fully prepare for the financial impact. Travel and accommodation costs add up quickly, and the minor monitory stipend (not the full amount) will not be available for a year after all bills are submitted.

We are raising funds to help cover some of Melissa flights and hotel stay so she can focus entirely on her recovery and healing. This surgery will not only enhance her quality of life but also help protect the longevity of her transplanted kidney.
