Like much of Eastern Kentucky, Buckhorn Children’s Center has been devastated by the historic flooding earlier this week. As a result, buildings and infrastructure across the campus have been rendered unusable, and staff has been forced to walk 2-3 miles daily to transport food, water and medication to the Clients. Some estimate that restoration of electric and running water may take weeks. Likewise, the repair of phone and internet lines could take longer.

Since its organization, the Agency has never faced a disaster of such historic proportions and, consequently, needs financial assistance more than ever. We have employees who have literally lost every physical possession to their name and have nowhere to go.  One employee is a single mother who has six children.   In order to keep them off the streets, the Agency has set up temporary housing on our campus so that they can have beds to sleep in and roofs over their heads.  While we will continue to do all that we can to care for our clients and staff, as well as the surrounding communities, the financial burden is growing daily.  

For over 100 years, Buckhorn Children’s Center has served as a sanctuary of health, healing and hope for at-risk children, youth and families. The Agency has always been willing to accept any child into their care, regardless of the circumstance, and has often been the only thing that prevented many children from becoming wards of the State. Since our organization in 1902, we have cared for and treated thousands of children and families from across the nation.
