Rob Lopez's Stroke Recovery Fund

Donation protected

Hello everyone,

My name is Emily Lopez and Rob is my wonderful father-in-law. He is a selfless, hard-working, witty, kind and generous man who is loved by so many people. He raised two amazing sons, has a wife of almost 40 years and has two daughters-in-law who love him very, very much.

It started with a simple kidney stone. It was removed successfully and he was supposed to come home later that day. He didn't wake up well from the anesthesia, and then the nurse noticed drooping on the left side of his face. CT scan showed a blood clot and a small stroke on the right side of his brain. They rushed him to the city hospital. Due to complications with diabetes and high blood pressure, it had to be removed surgically. It was successful, and the family and friends went home that night feeling "okay".

The next morning, upon returning to the hospital, we learned that the blood clot had "reoccluded" in the right middle cerebral artery, which caused a massive stroke and swelling in the brain. Because of the swelling, he had to undergo a craniectomy, had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator. Because of the stroke, Rob has lost feeling and function on the left side of his body, and the doctor informed us that he will never return to work again. Rob has been a floor covering installer for almost 30 years, and although he would like to have retired, this isn't how he wanted to do it. He was so good at his job, he didn't need to advertise-word of mouth was more than enough. He was known for the quality of the work he did and took great pride in it. When he was on a job, he use to say, "While I'm here, your house is my house and I will treat it as such." Rob was the main source of his family's income, as his wife suffers from chronic pain. Within the span of a few hours, all of our lives have dramatically changed forever, and we don't know how well he will recover. This is a huge blow to all of us and we are hanging on by a thread. This man who was so full of life, will never play golf with his sons again. We don't even know what changes will need to be made to the house when he comes home eventually.

Like so many others who are self-employed, the cost of medical insurance was too expensive and he didn't qualify for state aid. Therefore, he is without any insurance at all. At this point, we are more concerned about them keeping their home, paying utilities, and buying food. Thus, we concluded that we needed all the help we could get and decided to start a Go Fund Me page.

Thank you so much for reading this. Anything at all you can give would help immensely. Even $5.00 helps pay for hospital parking.
