My sister Jessica is an amazing, generous, kind, compassionate, caring, and loving women. These words only touch on what it takes to describe her. She has dedicated her life to helping others as a registered nurse and now needs a little help of her own. At the beginning of this year she began having strange symptoms such as numbness and tingling down her legs, extreme fatigue, headaches, and back pain. After numerous exams, a MRI, and a spinal tap she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This was shocking and heart breaking news for Jessica and our family. Multiple Sclerosis is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. The immune system attacks the fatty material called myelin, which wraps around nerves to help protect them. The damage means that the brain can not send signals through your body correctly. This can lead to a multitude of debilitating symptoms. Jessica is currently only being treated with oral medications She is still experiencing sudden loss of sensation to her legs, extreme fatigue, headaches, pain, problems focusing or remembering, and even less common symptoms such as speech problems.
There is not a cure for Multiple Sclerosis but there are some new promising treatments that may help slow the progression of the disease. Of course these treatments are not covered by her insurance and can be expensive. As a young women of only 28 years old, she still has a lot of life ahead of her including starting a family of her own. To ensure that she has that opportunity I would like to raise money so she can seek treatments that she otherwise could not afford. Once we are sure what treatments she is a candidate for she can use the funding to facilitate a treatment plan. The funds will also help her with the medical expenses her already has.
It is not always easy for someone like my sister to ask for help when she is the one that is always giving it. That is why I have decided to create this fund for her. Anything you can give will help and will be greatly appreciated by Jessica and our family. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you!
