Hello! My name is Liliani Mejia-Martinez, I am a Political Science major at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona, with plans to transfer to a university after these two years. This summer I have the opportunity to travel abroad for around 4 weeks to Prague, Czech Republic, for a three-credit class on Introduction to Holocaust Studies, being taught in a class at the University in Prague. This trip will go beyond my traditional education, putting me in a new environment and out of my comfort zone to be successful and effective in my career field and evolve as a person. To cover the price of tuition, airfare, and numerous expenses involved with traveling abroad, I need financial aid to accept this opportunity.

This trip will put me in a position to break out of my "US-centric" thinking and open myself up to the history and cultural immersion that is beyond what is obtainable here in America. During this time we will tour historical sites connecting with the Holocaust, and many other landmarks and sites that tell the story of the historical and cultural development of the Czech Republic. To add to this opportunity, we will be taking a three-day trip to Berlin, Germany furthering our immersive education. Being in a foreign environment will push me to become a better communicator, listener, and empathizer with other people allowing me to stand out amongst others in my future ventures. I'm hoping to take advantage of the opportunity for personal growth to support my goal to get into humanitarian work to feed into the upliftment of society in my unique way.
