Hello, my name is Cheryl Oliver, I am Chris' wife. I have know Chris, since I was 15 and he has always worked, but for the last 5 months he has been out of work. We never thought it would become permanent.
At the end of August, he was admitted to Maine Med for an ankle infection. It had taken over every empty space in his ankle and foot. After 2 surgeries, and heavy IV antibiotics in the hospital and then at home, things started to look good and we felt he was on the right track to healing.
On October 13th, he had his 2nd follow-up with the ankle surgeon. After examination, it was determined the infection was not gone, but had started to go into his calf and in his bones. After much discussion between Chris, myself and the surgeon, the decision was made to amputate his leg just below the knee. His surgery date is November 3rd, which is coming fast.
I am asking for help with with making our home wheelchair accessible. We need 2 ramps, safety bars in the bathroom and to fix our bedroom floor. He will be in the hospital for 3 to 4 days after surgery, then rehab.
We never thought we would be doing this. Chris never thought there would ever be a time he could not work and would need to rely on other people's help.
We would appreciate any amount you could donate to help us.
Thank you so much!!
