Scrub Up for Hastings & St Leonard's! has been set up to help provide scrubs for doctors and other healthcare professionals in the area during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The shortage of suitable protective clothing within the medical profession has become well known and we know that there is a real and urgent need for scrubs in Hastings and St Leonard's both in the hospitals and also now in GP surgeries. We have had appeals from a number of doctors and nurses, and they are desperate for scrubs. The usual suppliers cannot keep up with demand so across the UK groups are organising themselves to help plug the gap. We can help!
We have called our little team "RX Scrubs" and we are a group of locally based freelance professionals whose normal work is in making costumes for film, tv, theatre, opera, ballet - all areas of the performing arts in fact. We are pattern cutters, makers - embroiderers even! - and have been running our own businesses for many years so we are organised and used to working to a client's brief to produce garments that do the job required .
Like so many others we have found ourselves suddenly out of work as our industry has come to a stop for the time being, so now we'd like to use our skills to do something to help the incredibly hardworking and skilled professionals on whom we are all so reliant always, but especially now.
We will be giving our labour for free, and happy to do so for this vital cause, but the fabrics, threads and other sewing materials have to be bought from the wholesalers, and that is why we have set up this funding page.
We have set a target to cover these costs, and anything we might raise in addition to our project's needs will be redistributed to one of the other groups of people doing similar work.
We really hope you will consider making a donation of whatever amount you can - big or small, it really will all help enormously.
