Peanut's Medical Bills
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Molly and my two-year-old galah Peanut is my whole world and the only family I have within 2720kms.
On Monday 19th she suddenly fell severely ill and after blood tests, heavy metal poisoning tests, crop swabs, faecal tests, x-rays and contrast radiographs, nothing obviously diagnostic showed up. After a week of antibiotics, and two weeks of painkillers (meloxicam), gut motility (cesapride) and probiotics, however, she failed to improve and only got worse. She is now lethargic, unbalanced, unresponsive, not eating, not drinking, has blood in her stool and has lost 18% of her body weight in less than 2 weeks.
At the moment the plan is supportive care (hospitalisation with crops feeds and fluids) until Tuesday when avian specialist vets reopen and I can get a second opinion. Unfortunately hospitalisation is costly, especially during this holiday period and a second opinion with another specialist is another large cost.
I am a full-time PhD student working under a scholarship but have no full-time income. I have just spent all my savings and maxed out my credit card on medical bills for her and I have nothing left.
Peanut means the whole world to me. I moved to Perth just over two years ago to undertake my PhD in black cockatoo conservation. I have dedicated my life to saving birds and am absolutely distraught at the idea that I may be unable to save her due to a lack of funds. Please, if you have anything to give, you would have the heart of Peanut and myself forever. Thank you endlessly for any contribution.
All our love,
Molly and Peanut
