Lana (Shelly) & Lane

Lana, her best friend Lane and another friend were attending the concert at the Apollo Theater in Belvidere on Friday night and was directly under the roof collapse. Her most vivid memory was holding hands with her friends and reaching out from underneath to wave her hand and scream. She was found and the young man who pulled her out, carried her outside and never left her side until I was able to see her in the ER. I am forever grateful to him. She and Lane were transported to UW Madison, WI. We are truly blessed and I am beyond thankful, there are no adequate words for how I feel, my baby girl is ok. She has compression fracture of L1, sutures and 10 staples for a laceration on her back, jammed ankle, 8 staples on the back of her head and 2 in front and a partially collapsed lung. She has a stability brace for her back for 6 weeks. Bumps scrapes and bruises and some slow recovery but she’s in good spirits. She will most likely need some therapy for one of her fingers as her phone was crushed in her hand, burnt it, and crushed her finger. I brought her and Lane home to my house on Sunday. Lane has a fractured shoulder blade, staples in his forehead and had 4 pins and a plate put in his foot because it had been crushed. My heart goes out to the man that didn’t make it and his family but I thank God these kids are ok. It is going to be a considerable recovery time for both of them as well as travel expenses for follow ups and whatever physical therapy they may need to function again. Out of pocket expenses have added up quickly and will continue to increase until full recovery. I do not know what the long term is for them yet either. anyone that knows me knows that I am the last person to ask for help at all, however these kiddos need some help and I can only do so much on my own.
