Marilyn's Miracle

On Thursday, August 1st, Marilyn had a headache, which we believed to be a migraine. On Friday morning, she woke up with a definite migraine but she was also having a hard time remembering words. She called into her doctor’s office to make an appointment and they sent her straight to the emergency room where they discovered a bleed on her brain. They transferred her via ambulance to Riverside Methodist Hospital which specializes in Neurology.
On Monday, August 5th they did a biopsy and she did phenomenal. They were originally thinking it was Melanoma that had metastasized. August 7th, we got the worst news imaginable, grade 4 Glioblastoma. This is a very aggressive brain cancer with an average life span of 15 months. The family was devastated but they know that they serve a mighty God! The surgeon discharged Marilyn from the hospital while they worked at setting up a treatment plan of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Marilyn was thrilled to sleep in her own bed and see her dog, Rex! She had a good day on Thursday and had a special dinner with her family and spent some time with friends, that evening.
Friday August 9th, Marilyn was confused and not finding words. She was unable to do some of the neuro tests that they had told us to do with her. We knew immediately something wasn’t right so we called the squad. Once she arrived at the emergency room, a cat scan was done and it revealed significant bleeding on the brain. Marilyn was intubated and life flighted back to Riverside where they were able to stabilize her.
Initially, the doctors advised that removing the tumor was not an option due to the location of the tumor. However, the cancer had progressed quickly for the worst and the operation became the only lifesaving option for Marilyn. There was much concern about the swelling in the brain the night before the surgery and they were still worried about the location of the tumor, which was in the speech and memory area of the brain.
On August 13th, they successfully removed the tumor. When they opened Marilyn’s skull, the surgeons were surprised to see that the swelling was gone and the tumor had shifted 2 cm below the speech and memory area of the brain. All praise and glory to God!! We know that He intervened on Marilyn’s behalf!
The last couple weeks have been hard with being in a bed and physical therapy. There is a lack of movement in her right side but the doctor is not concerned, at the moment. He said that some of that will come back. The doctor is setting up chemo and radiation therapy and is expecting a long road to recovery.
From the onset of this cancer diagnosis, the family chose to cling to Jesus while praying and believing for a complete healing. Instead of wallowing in fear, doubt, and despair, the family chose Joy! They are choosing to keep their eyes on Christ and celebrate every little miracle along the way to the full miraculous healing.
What the family hasn’t seen yet are the mounting medical bills that are accruing. Marilyn has spent nearly a full month in ICU at Riverside Hospital while receiving many high dollar scans, surgeries and care. While you cannot put a price on Marilyn and the family’s love for her, I am hoping we can help lighten the load.
Pastor Russ and Marilyn has always gone out of their way to help others. They aren’t accustomed to asking for or receiving money from anyone. Your donation of any amount, will be greatly appreciated and will go towards the many medical bills that are coming in.
Unfortunately, the bills don't wait until healing is complete before they start coming in and demanding timely payment. And as you know, hospital bills, high tech imaging, and life-flight are all very, very expensive.
The Hylton family is blessed beyond measure by the many family members and friends who are joining them in prayer during this battle. They will also be very touched and blessed by any amount of money raised to assist them with the financial battle that comes along with fighting cancer.
Thank you for joining us in this battle with all of your prayers and any other help you can provide, financial or otherwise.
