Miracles for Maddy

Hello, this GoFundMe account has been created to support Maddy Griffin and her family as they continue in the fight of their lives against cancer. Maddy is a sophomore at Union High School here in Vancouver, WA. Her mom, Melinda, is a teacher at Riverview Elementary and her dad, Matt, is a manager at Fred Meyer. Maddy also has an older brother, Dillon, and is very close to her grandparents, David and Kay Jolivette.

As some of you may know, Maddy Griffin was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer just over one year ago. Maddy began experiencing headaches and blurred vision so, thinking that she may need a new prescription for her eyeglasses, Melinda scheduled an appointment with their eye doctor. Coincidentally, they happend to have an opening on August 11, 2020, Maddy's 15th birthday. As part of the exam, the doctor noted some shadows behind Maddy's eyes and referred her to a local emergency room for further examination and testing. One can only imagine the shock Maddy and her parents experienced when the ER doctor indicated that brain cancer could be the cause of Maddy's symptoms. She was transferred to Randall Children's Hosital in Portland where, after several days of hospitalization, she was officially diagnosed with an inoperable form of brain cancer.

Maddy has so bravely faced chemo and radiation treatments, as well as several natural regimens, over the past year. She has maintained a positive attitude, assuring her family that she isn't going anywhere!

Roughly one week after celebrating her 16th birthday, Maddy took a turn for the worse. Melinda and Matt took her to the emergency room on Saturday, August 21st, where it was discovered that the cancerous tumor in Maddy's brain had grown.

While the tumor cannot be removed because of it's location, Maddy and her family have not given up hope!!! Maddy will be starting a new chemo regimen in the coming days and there is hope that she will be eligible to participate in a clinical trial in Seattle.
