Hi, my name is Samantha Ratchford (Mike's niece) I am starting this GoFund Me in hopes that it will provide some relief financially while he is in the hospital. Monday January 1st, 2024 he went to Union hospital because he was extremely confused and was struggling to do his normal day to day things. Union Hospital transferred him to Mercy because he needed to see a neurologist, as the CT scan that Union did showed a few lesions and a mass on his brain. As of today January 4th, 2024 he has had a CT scan with contrast and an MRI. The neurologist has contacted oncology and cardiology because he needs medical clearance for the procedure on his brain. They will need to do a biopsy on the mass, it is on the top of his head which is a tricky spot to get a biopsy from but it needs to be done to determine exactly what is going on. With everything else he is at a high risk of a stroke because of the mass. When he does get discharged he will need to go to a nursing home for physical therapy and to regain his strength. The doctors have said his memory loss/confusion makes sense because of the mass. Anyone who knows Mike, knows what a big heart he has. He would do anything for anyone and never asking or expecting anything in return. He will be unable to work for awhile. I do have paperwork to fill out to get him short term disability but I've been through that before for my husband and it does take some time. So I want to raise money for him to take care of any bills that he has coming so he doesn't stress about it. I thank all of you for everything! Once I have an update, I will post but as of right now they are going to keep him comfortable and if he gets medical clearance they plan on doing the procedure on the brain Monday.
