My good friend and former colleague, Liz Esquibel (known to some of her friends and family as Dede) is among so many who have lost so much in the Calf Canyon Fire that has devastated many communities north of Las Vegas. Her home and most of her possessions are a total loss. Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Liz, knows that to know her is to love her. Her giving heart is present in everything that she does. Liz was my administrative assistant in the NMHU field education office, but aside from being great at her job, she was known to sit with students and help them with whatever they needed, and more than once, I found faculty, staff, and students in her office sharing in whatever she was making in her crockpot or toaster oven that day. She was also known to sneak my own kids candy and cookies every time she saw them. Since retiring, Liz has continued to give of herself to care for her grandchildren, her mother until her passing, and now her elderly father who is struggling with Dementia. Liz has never asked for anything for herself, but only how she can be of service. If you are able to and find it in your heart to give to help support her during this most difficult time for her and her family, I would greatly appreciate it. If you are unable to give, please keep her and her family and all those impacted by the fires, in your prayers during this time. Thank you and God Bless You.
