Hello my name is Felicitas. Our 21 month old daughter Santana was recently diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. On 7/3/22 My babykins started with what was just a fever for almost 5 days. 3 doctors belived it was a virus Bronchiolitis and we treated it as such. She eventually grew more tired and stopped wanting to eat didn’t want to walk. Her pcp eventually ordered blood work. My daughters hemoglobin and platelet levels were at the critical level when we got to Lutheran on 7/18/22. She received many transfusion and all those were necessary just to be able to get her well enough to be put under and get the BMB at Riley hospital for children down in Indianapolis. Before knowing her diagnosis we could see her energy coming back her appetite came back her color came happy to be feeling better. I really hoped it wasn’t going to be Leukemia. But in the end it was. I received her diagnosis on 7/28/22. Everything is moving fast she has already began chemotherapy on 7/29/22 we are in the induction stage. Where her doctors Believe they can get her into remission. Today I Received the news that Santana falls in the standard risk, which for now means her chemo won’t be as intense or aggressive as others. It will still be very hard. Santana has already been through a lot physically since starting she’s had her port installed she needed another bmb and also a spinal tap. Which she will continue to get. She also had chemo right on her spine and more chemo that same night all in 1 day. Tomorrow 8/2/22 she will be getting “peg” and we are hoping to be able to go back home. I’m terrified but I kno her team will prepare me for what’s to come. I’m scared I’m mad it’s not fair. She doesn’t deserve this. No child does. My heart breaks for every single child I have seen since. But there is hope and Santana will fight her fight!! Her dad and I as well as everyone that cares about her will stand by my baby.
We are going through a difficult time as we learn to navigate this journey with her. If anyone would please like to donate anything for any expensive that will arise, this will be a long journey. Our primary vehicle just took a poop, and even though we have some transportation atm we will eventually be needing something more reliable. We have many many future appointments in town and in Indianapolis. I also want to be able to make Santana feel as comfortable as possible while in clinic she will be needing things to keep her entertained and cozy. There is so much that can happen throughout this journey unexpected er visits inpatient stays and so on. I just really would like be prepared for anything I can. Anything will help and will be put to use for our future expenses (rent, bills, food, groceries, anything that Santana may need.) thank you for taking the time to read our story if you would like to follow Santanas journey I’ve created a Facebook group that I will try to keep updated along the way
