Keeping horses fed until owners can get on their feet
I am a horse owner here on the Central Coast of California. COVID has not hit us that hard, but the lock down has hit a lot of pocket books. Hay prices are still high and I am hearing a lot of crying from horse owners, unemployed, not sure whether their job is coming back, waiting for unemployment and scared.
I so far have been able to keep hay in the bellies of my own horses, for now, but so many are desperate for just a little bit of help. Although I am OK, I don't have extra to give out. Many of us are looking at making heart wrenching decisions to sell our beloved steeds, but the horse market is terrible, because too many people are broke.
None of us want to see pictures of starving horses and owners don't want to fail their horses like that, but there is little help available. I want to change that!
I wanted to start this GoFundMe to try to help out in my local community, but would encourage people in all communities to do the same. Let's help each other out if we can.
What ever I can raise here, will go directly to Santa Margarita Hay, in Santa Margarita California, and be used solely for horse hay, that will be available to any horse owner in our community that needs a little emergency help. I already have a list of about 10 people that are desperate for at least 5 bales to get them thru until unemployment kicks in or their jobs reopen.
I am sure there are more out there and will reach out to local clubs to announce that we have some available, providing this fund does well enough.
Please kick in whatever you can and lets try to help out horses so they don't go hungry. If all you have is $1 or $5 or $10 that is fine, every little bit helps.
