"What can't be measured is the soul of a man. My husband's rainbow soul was bright enough to light the way for others, and his life was not in vain. As I try to prepare for our lives without this beautiful man, I realize the true measure of a man is the legacy he leaves behind, and his legacy was his love of life and work, his family, his friends."
Larry Dougherty was a Retired NYPD Police Officer who served the public for twenty years, in the 20th Precinct, and the Headquarters Security Unit. Larry was a legend, a memorable character, and a man with values, virtue and his true legacy that he leaves behind is his love for his family and his friends.
Larry was loved by everyone who met him. He was honest, kind and respectful to everyone. He had a heart of gold and was the kind of man who you could count on to always do the right thing by everybody.
Larry leaves behind a loving wife Nanette Dougherty and their four children Isabella, Juliette, Jean-Paul and Grace. After retirement, he was also a dog handler to Canine Frank with MSA Security.
Larry suffered for nine years with 9/11 related cancer. He fought a good fight, not even telling most people of his illness, and enduring the pain without complaint of the metastatic cancer that devastated his body. He worked his last tour with his service dog, Frank, on 5/ 25 and then went home to be with God.
"I have fought a good fight,I have finished my course,I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing"
Family is seeking money to help with expenses and to set up a memorial to celebrate his life. A portion of the funds will be donated to the 9/11 Children's Fund in Larry's honor.
