Hi, my name is Kate Polischak. In October of 2021 I had an emergency colonoscopy for an emergent issue and a tumor was located in my rectum. After pathology I was diagnosed with cancer and after meeting with an oncologist it was revealed that I have Stage II Neuroendocrine Cancer of the Rectum. The initial tumor was only partially removed during the colonoscopy as it was thought to only be a polyp, however I will be needing another surgery to remove the remainder of the cancerous tissue in March of 2022. The struggle is real folks! I have worked in emergency services since I was 19 years old from ER tech to EMT to phlebotomist and to 911 dispatcher. I have spent that 20 years doing anything and everything I can to serve my community and help people when they were in need and sometimes on the worst days of their lives. Now, I am embarrassed to say, I need help. Deductibles, copays, medications not covered by insurance and the copays of the medications that are covered are becoming overwhelming. According to MDPI journals “Rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare, with an incidence of 0.17%, but they represent 12% to 27% of all NETs and 20% of gastrointestinal NETs.” Because of the rarity of this type of cancer I see a special oncologist in Radnor and surgeon in Philadelphia, both with University of Pennsylvania. The driving back and forth and rising gas prices are a constant concern. I realize that the current economy is putting a squeeze on everyone but any little bit would help. I appreciate everyone who has called, texted and reached out to help me during this difficult time. Please share this link, any and all help is appreciated and I am forever grateful to everyone who has helped me get this far. Thank you so much!!!
