Woof.
Never in a million years did we expect to be booted from the home we love with only 90 days to figure out next steps.
This place houses so many great memories for us; there’s been 2 films shot here, we’ve hosted many a holiday and kickback, and it’s always acted as the stay of choice for visiting friends. We’ve had so many of the ones we’ve loved in this home between the pop art living room and garden rich rooftop. This is the home that we raised our first dog in, that we thugged covid through, and where we personally grew the most as a couple, celebrating the passing of our 9th year together this past October.
But our building is being demolished early March 2026.
It’s one of the last 2 story buildings on Atlantic, and one of the last pillars of Old Brooklyn in the neighborhood - it hurts on many levels.
Naturally, we started to panic knowing the rising rents in our neighborhood had already priced us out about 3 years ago; we had gotten this apartment at such a manageable rent because I helped our landlord open and name his first restaurant, BrooklyNoosh - it was a very New York situation and I love that it became part of our housing story. But in the 5 years that we’ve remained, much of the surrounding landscape has not; an influx of about 8 new high rises and 20k people have been injected into the area since, and with more transplants comes exorbitantly higher rents for significantly smaller spaces.
Our family simply can’t financially compete, nor do we want to. We want to choose peace between us and our environment, and so we’ve decided that in these 90 days we will prepare to shuffle our way towards warmer (and more fiscally doable) pastures in southern California in our trusty vehicle, Sharkeisha. It will take a hefty little sum to make our way, but we’ve been diligent during these rougher financial times so that we wouldn’t be completely blind sided should life LIFE. That said, we certainly weren’t stacked anywhere near enough to incur the cost of a full body move so unexpectedly.
It takes a village, and we know we’re blessed to have an army. We come to you humbly and transparently: whatever is available to you, whatever you are moved to support with or can contribute, we are beyond grateful. A couple bucks goes a long way for gas, stays, food, etc and anything that we can add to the limited income from our remaining days of work will be stretched like magic.
We don’t think we will be coming back East so this will be ciao for a while, but we will be so happy to offer our west coast stay to friends and family once we are settled.
Our home is always your home, and we can't wait to share the next chapter.
Thank you.
