Mick O'Brien

Hi, my name is Gwen O'Brien. I am fundraising for my husband, Mick O'Brien, myself and our child who just graduated from BU and is working but not earning enough to help our situation. Mick and I have had our own home remodeling business for 17 years and we're doing ok. The last two years Mick couldn't work a full day or deal with a lot of stairs due to peripheral artery disease so work tapered off. Money became very short and we fell behind on rent and all our bills. Mick had surgery on both legs with multiple stents and and was improving but since we were behind in rent, the landlord is evicting us. We have to be out by March 31st at midnight. That was doable until last week when on 3/2/24 we noticed a black spot on Mick's right foot. Went to emergency room. Turns out he has necrotizing fasciitis which is an aggressive flesh eating bacteria. He has already had a surgery that removed the muscles and tendons from the top of his foot bones but the bacteria is still there. He rquires more surgeries. He will be out for months. In the meantime, we have until March 31st to remove all our belongings from the premises. We have lived here for 17 years. Between my child and myself there is no way we can come up with the funds for a deposit, application fees, first month rent, let alone storage locker, movers and truck rental fees. Chicago is out of rental assistance and we have no where to go. Desperately need help to keep a roof over our heads and a place for Mick to come home to.
