Emmett’s Mighty Prayer Army

Donation protected
Emmett Oliver Trout, born on March 16, 2022, graciously blessing his Mommy (Ryan Miller, 23), and Daddy (Ben Trout, 22) as first time parents. ♡︎ God doesn't promise everything to always go in our plans, but He does promise guidance and refuge in Him through prayer.

Emmett's arrival into the world has been met with several obstacles. Their little family faces a long road ahead with many unknowns yet to be discovered. What we do know is that he IS a strong little guy, and there is an army of prayer warriors lifting them up. Ryan's 20 week ultrasound showed baby Emmett has significant Spina Bifida- a birth defect where the spine doesn't close properly. The type he has is “Open Spina Bifida,” the most severe form. Essentially, part of Emmett’s spinal cord protrudes through a sac/cyst in his back at his T11 vertebrae. The ultrasound also showed hydrocephalus (swelling around his brain), scoliosis in 2 areas, a club foot, and reduced movement on Baby Emmett’s left side. Ryan and Ben were told by several physicians that their baby’s outcome, once born, would be grim. Future functions involving Emmett’s ability to walk, mobility of his extremities, eating, normal bowel and bladder functions, or breathing on his own may all be affected. Due to all the complexities of Emmett’s condition, in utero surgical intervention wasn’t an option.

With unwavering faith and trust in our Heavenly Father and Miracle Worker, Ryan and Ben allowed God to guide every decision throughout this journey. Physicians had recommended to terminate his precious, innocent life. But, as each scan passed, Ryan and Ben remained hopeful. Emmett too showed us that he was ready to defy the odds. Physicians expected him to lose motor function in his extremities as he grew, but he continued to wiggle, kick, and wave to his Mommy & Daddy reassuring them, that together, and with God, they have this fight. He remained stable enough all the way to to 39 weeks gestation allowing him to grow and better prepare for his first planned surgery, expected at 48 hours after birth to close his spine. He may also need a second surgery for a shunt if the fluid around his brain isnt reduced with the spine surgery. The rest of the medical needs will be decided by Emmett as we learn more about him.

Right now, we first and foremost ask that you keep Ryan, Ben, and Baby Emmett in your prayers. Pray specifically for peace, understanding, and strength for his parents. Pray that they feel their family, friends and community rallying behind them in support & love. Guide them to remember their faith, and take comfort in knowing our Lord is IN this battle with them, and will never leave them or abandon them. Pray for Ryan's recovery & healing from her C-section, as well as support both parents as they walk this journey together. Pray daily for Baby Emmett’s stability and strength to continue upward. We ask that you pray for the physicians, nurses, surgeons, specialists, and Emmett’s entire medical team to have clear, patient minds and steady hands as they treat little Emmett.

If you feel generously called to go beyond prayer, we have set up this Fund to help support their family. Emmett will be in the NICU for several weeks, which is over an hour one way from their home. Any donations will help these first time parents with gas/travel to be by his bedside, meals while at the hospital, lost wages, medical bills or other treatments that may be needed in the future. Your generosity and kindness, no matter how you choose to support this family, will not go unnoticed, and will be so deeply appreciated.
