Maddie who is loved by so many, and known for her sweet dispositon, loving soul, who at times can be a bit much jumping on you at the front door when you come to visit (only due to her excitment of seeing you), has a heartbreaking, lifethreatening Immune Mediated Blood Disorder called Thromobocytopenia. Her platelet count was zero over the weekend and her white blood count is highly elevated. She can have internal bleeding and have a blood bleed at any moment. She was covered with petechia on Friday, which are areas of bleeding under the skin. Her ears, under eyes, her tummy and under her arms were covered. She suffered from this in 2010 and it was a long and expensive recover, but we got it under control. It was proabable (if not inevitable) that she would relapse at some point in time, and unfortunatley that time has come. Her bills are already mounting and I am trying to cover them, but she needs to be hospitalized, be put on several medications (including one that is a form of Chemo), given diagnostic testing and constant monitoring. So Maddie and I are hoping for some help. Its hard to ask for help at all generally for us, but this is a life threatening illness that needs immediate care. Maddie just came through a surgery in January for a torn cruciate in her knee, and we cannot belive we are back at square one with this now. Anything we receive for "Maddie's fund" will go 100% toward her care at VERG South, the Emergency Doggie Hospital where Dr Clarke and the entire staff can take excellent care of her. And if any funds raised are not needed in the end, we will pay it forward and donate it to another dog in need of emergency care. Our only goal now is to see Maddie through this and get her the best care possible.
