David's medical expenses

A few weeks ago my sweet husband, David Lauritzen, fell 20 feet onto concrete when the ladder he was using to put up Christmas decorations slipped out from under him. He shattered both feet and one wrist, among other injuries. Thankfully he is expected to make a full recovery, but he cannot put any weight on his feet for at least eight weeks and will have months of rehabilitation after that. Because of the extent of his injuries he will have to be in a care facility for a few months, including through the holidays.

Although we are so grateful it wasn’t worse (his surgeon said it’s a miracle he’s alive) and although he has medical insurance, we now find ourselves overwhelmed with medical bills as his out of pocket deductible is quite high and due to the timing of the accident being at the end of the year, we will max out the deductible for two years instead of one. There are also a number of expenses related to his care that are not covered by insurance.

We know the holidays can be tight financially for many people, and we have already felt so much love and support from those who know about the situation. Please don’t feel obligated, but if you are wanting to help out, this is really what we need right now. Everything helps and will hopefully take some of the burden off of the financial stress so we can focus on and recovery and caregiving. Thank you all so much. We love you.
