My name is Christopher Odeh; my friends call me Chris. I am a single father of two who is in the last stretch of completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Grand Canyon University. To put it simply, I need your help! As a single father, I have been working very diligently over these past few years to accomplish my dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. This task has not been an easy one, as not only am I the only caregiver for my children, but I am the only caregiver for my ailing mother.
Custody problems have plagued my efforts to gather a nest egg for me and my family. They have caused an expensive, long-distance move from New Mexico to Arizona, as well as another move from Sedona, Arizona, to Cottonwood. In addition to this move, I was forced to halt my studies at Eastern New Mexico University.
Now don’t get me wrong, these trials have been for the benefit of my children, and I would not have it any other way. My son and daughter, ages 11 and 14, have always come first and foremost in my life. But now our home and my livelihood are in jeopardy, which also places them in jeopardy.
Late last year, while driving with my son, we were involved in a car accident which totaled the family car. Fortunately, no one was badly hurt; but, unfortunately, this forced me to finance another vehicle, causing further economic hardship. Because of this accident (which was caused by the other driver), I now must secure car payments that are drawing from money that is already tight from rising rent, utilities, and medical expenses for my mother. We do receive government assistance in the form of food stamps, but because of my mother’s increase in medical benefits, the amount we receive has been drastically reduced.
As I have mentioned before, our rent is rising. This is an impossibility that may force us to move yet again. We have no idea where to go, and I am fearful of my family becoming homeless. I normally would not turn to a site such as this, but because of my dire circumstances, and the fact that I have nowhere else to turn, I am humbling myself to ask for help from those who understand, and who are willing to help us out the best you can, with whatever you can.
I am fighting so hard to be a dad that is present for his children, as well as being a good son to my mother. I am determined to not only complete my degree, but also be successful with it. With your help I can finish my education without constant financial stress holding me back and provide a safe, secure environment for my children and mother. Please help this single father of two reduce or eliminate this great weight on his shoulders. I pray that you can help me to pay off my car, pay down my debt, and enable my family to live in a safe, secure home. I hope you can find it in your heart to help, and from the bottom of mine, thank you!
Sincerely,
Chris
