Help My Family Stay Alive

Hello, my name is Doha AlKahlout. I am from Gaza.

I survived the war in April 2025 when I was evacuated to France after receiving a fellowship. But my entire family is still in Gaza—my father and mother, my four sisters and their children, and my three brothers. They are facing an uncertain and terrifying fate.

Right now, my family—like all of Gaza—is under constant threat of forced displacement to the south, into tents by the sea, where there is nothing. They have been suffering from hunger for more than four months. No proper food has entered Gaza: no flour, no legumes—only tiny amounts that are sold in the markets at three times the normal price. One kilo of flour now costs $30, and one kilo of lentils is $20. There are no vegetables, no fruits. The blockade is crushing families with starvation and humiliation.

My brothers risk death every time they try to reach the aid trucks. Every day I beg them not to go, promising that I will send them whatever little money I can—just so I don’t lose anyone. I am doing everything I can, but I am now powerless in the face of these impossible prices, the continuous threats of displacement (moving from one place to another can cost up to $1000), and my fear of losing them.

I am trying the impossible just to keep them alive—to give the children in my family at least a chance to grow up with food and safety.
