Hi, I’m Mez, a transmasc nonbinary person from London, UK. I came out about a year ago, after many years struggling with myself and my identity.

I have socially transitioned, but am now beginning my medical transition. Before I can do anything, I need to receive a diagnosis of gender dysphoria so that I can start taking testosterone, and begin to look and sound the way I am supposed to.

The problem is that the NHS has a 6 year long wait list, which I don’t think I can survive. It’s taken me so many years of depression to get to a point where I am confident enough to accept myself and come out, I don’t think I can wait another 6 years, unable to do anything about it.

However, the other problem is that, while private clinics have much shorter wait lists, private diagnoses are very expensive. And that’s why I am fundraising.

I have a little money saved up, but I currently work as a teaching assistant for an agency, which means I am not paid over half terms. This means I’m on minimum wage across the year, and not able to save anything at the moment. A private diagnosis is £500+ and I haven’t got anywhere near that saved.

I’m also going to be doing a masters in Clinical Psychology in September, which means a lot of the money I have saved will need to go to food and housing, as a masters is largely self funded.

Top surgery is my end goal, but I know this is still a way off, and will require a lot more saving, which is why, right now, I just want to raise enough to get my transition started.
