Holiday Book Drive for Low-Income Students

Now through December 2, The Foundation Schools is fundraising for our 2025 Holiday Book Fair, giving our students with emotional disabilities and autism free books to read over winter break. Help us meet our $2,300 goal to host book fairs at our three special education schools in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area, funding 237 high-interest books.

How will my donation be used?

Your donation will provide the gift of free, new, and current books to our students with emotional disabilities and autism at The Foundation Schools’ Holiday Book Fairs, hosted December 8, 9, and 12, 2025. This annual Book Fair encourages our students to continue reading over Winter Break!

Who will my donation benefit?

Students with emotional disabilities in grades K-8 at The Foundation School in Largo, MD and The Foundation School of Montgomery County in Gaithersburg, MD, and students with autism in grades K-12 at The Foundation Learning Center in Landover, MD.

Why should I donate to the Holiday Book Fair Drive?

The Foundation Schools is a collection of three K-12 nonprofit schools that provide a specialized learning environment for children with emotional disabilities, autism, and social-emotional learning challenges. 80% of our students live in low-income homes and many more come from disadvantaged families, so their parents do not have the financial resources to pay for books or support PTA-type fundraising. Therefore, the funding of the Holiday Book Fair depends on your efforts.

What kind of books will my donation fund?

The books provide recreational reading as a supplement to instruction. The more fun our students have reading, the more likely they are to improve their reading skills. Student favorite books include Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Man, Plants vs. Zombies, Pokemon and Lego characters, cars, technology, and superheroes.

How long will the Book Drive run?

November 3rd - December 2nd, 2025.

How should I make my contribution?

Please donate at this GoFundMe page or, as an alternative, send your check made out to The Foundation Schools with the note “Holiday Book Fair” to the following address, postmarked by November 25 so it can be processed in time for the Fair.
