Help with Kevin's Recovery

As Kevin's parents, Paddy Pháraic and Áine, we are setting up this donation page on behalf of our 34 yr old son Kevin Ó Conghaile, Bánrach, Baile na hAbhann, Gaillimh. Kevin was an outdoor instructor and very fit and strong but unfortunately he suffered a massive stroke and presented to Letterkenny Hospital on 13th June 2021. Kevin was working and residing in Bunbeg in the Donegal Gaeltacht. He is father to two young children Aaron aged 5 and Cora aged 2, who are his pride and joy.

Kevin was transferred to UH Galway on 15th June 2021. A brain MRI showed extensive damage to the stem of his brain due to a lodged blood clot. This has affected all his basic bodily functions, speech and movement. Kevin wasn't given a successful prognosis and he will need long-term increased care needs.

At the moment Kevin cannot speak and is very restricted in his movements. He is fed through a peg in his stomach and has a trachea inserted.

Kevin suffered numerous infections but through sheer determination, the strong love he has for his young family and the wonderful care he receives in St Anne's ward, he has defied all odds and he has started moving his legs and hands.

We are extremely grateful to the amazing stroke team, OT, speech and language therapists, physios, all the doctors, nurses and health care assistants who are helping Kevin in every way possible to regain his health and get him prepared to attend National Rehab, and then to get him home please God. Kevin's positivity is shining through and he is adamant that he is getting stronger everyday, so that he will be there to love and care for his young family again.

This funding assistance will help with Kevin's future medical needs, physical adapations to his home in line with recommendations from the Occupational Therapists and the numerous other costs due to his illness.

Kevin is a strong inspiration to us all to live in hope, faith and love. He has a long road ahead of him with physiotherapy and intensive speech and language therapy.

By raising sufficient funds this will help with Kevin's full recovery and his journey to regain full physical and mental independence to enjoy life with his family again.

We know that Kevin will pull through this illness.
