------------------------------------------

In Sept. 1997, Kevin was injured at work, where a brick wall collapsed and toppled down on him, breaking his ribs and right leg, plus severe compression to his lower spine. After numerous leg surgeries, he was able to walk again, but became permanently disabled. 18 yrs. later, in Sept. 2015, he found out he has stomach cancer. 9 weeks of chemotherapy did not deter the growth of cancer cells at all. The doctor announced there was no more treatment he could think of, because the type of cancer he got is really aggressive. Surgery was not a viable option either because he had lost so much weight due to chemotherapy. The doctor suggested the family starts working with hospice care.

Kevin is a fighter and the toughest, bravest, most tenacious person I know. He has endured 18 yrs. of physical pain and thru it all, he chose to look at his pain in a positive light. He said his disability enabled him to be even closer to his kids, since he became essentially a stay-at-home dad taking care of them. This time around, he's still fighting even though it is getting tougher to stay positive. Last month Kevin decided to press on with radiation treatment, even when the doctor had no hope with this course of treatment. He has 2 sons currently attending colleges, a wife who needs to continue working to keep the health insurance coverage. His brother and sister who live in another country have put their own families and personal lives on hold, just to spend time taking care of Kevin and offer moral support.
