Kim's Battle
Donation protected
This is my sister Kim. Sisters not by blood but by love. By marrying her brother Rod I was blessed with a
sister. She fought a battle that she didn’t want to fight. It was a battle between breast cancer and her
will to live. She won that battle fiercely, without wavering. For five years she was in the clear until
recent imaging found a tumor on her spine after nagging back pain for several weeks. Upon the
devastating news she took a day to deal with the shock and dread then immediately the warrior hat
was back on. She was ready to fight a battle in which she didn’t enlist. I want to help her. Some people
sadly may already know this but others may not. Cancer not only robs your body but it robs your
pocketbook. It is truly sad that people have to face financial ruin in order to fight for their lives.
Collectively, her upcoming spinal surgery, then a rehab stay, appointments with specialists, multiple
rounds of chemo and radiation, will add up to an amount that is inconceivable. While insurance helps
with a portion of the medical bills, insurance does not help the household/ living expenses that add up
when out of work for an extended period of time. She just recently crawled out of the medical debt
abyss from her previous battle. This time is even more of a challenge. Due to the location of the tumor,
she must undergo extensive spinal surgery to debulk the tumor and relieve pressure to her spinal cord.
She can expect a 6-8 week recovery period following surgery and then jump right into rigorous cancer
treatment. I truly want to help ease the burden on her shoulders and allow her to focus entirely on her
battle ahead.
To help you get to know Kim better I will do my best to put into words the beauty of her heart. She has
a heart so big you feel her love without a word. A hug so warm you feel it in your heart. An easy laugh
that makes you grin without knowing it. She tries to never complain even when she has a good reason.
She never cusses. Ever!! She is kind to the core and tries to stay in the sunny side of life, not dwell on
the dark clouds of the storms that life can bring.
Her family and I thank you for reading her story and we will provide updates going forward. Please send
prayers and positive energy her way.
Sincerely,
