Hi, my name is Laurie and we are fundraising for surgery for our daughter Katie's rare vascular disorder. With $35,000 in private donations and a $50,000 GoFundMe we are in the final stretch to reach our target of the $85 thousand needed.
For the past 5 years Katie has been in and out of hospitals and doctors' offices desperately looking for answers for her excruciating flank and leg pain. This year she was finally diagnosed with a set of very rare vascular compression syndromes called Nutcracker Syndrome, May Thurner Syndrome and Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome. This diagnosis is so rare that the Ontario Vascular Specialist relayed to us that "There are no Vascular Specialists proficient at this kind of surgery in Canada". So we put the word out, and were directed to Dr Rodriguez Morata, Head of Angiology and Vascular Surgery in Madrid Spain. He has done many of these life-restoring surgeries for other Canadians and internationals suffering from these rare vascular disorders.
Although OHIP is working towards a better plan for citizens with rare disorders, there is currently no help available.
After a thorough review of Katie's diagnostic reports, below is Dr. Morata's plan for Katie's surgery. The surgery is now booked for October 27th, 2021
2 Surgeries (3 days apart)
- Excision of the arcuate ligament
- 2 vascular bypass surgeries and stent
Scans and Lab Work
- 2 IVUS scans (one prior to each surgery)
- Blood Work
Hospital
- Total of 4 Days in Intensive Care Unit
- 10-15 days hospital care
Expenses
Surgeries and Hospital Care
45,000 - 55,000 Euros
$66,000 - $81,000 CAD

The surgery date is booked for October 27 this year. We very much appreciate any financial gift to help our daughter with these life-restoring surgeries.
Thank you for sharing this with as many people as possible. May God bless you!
Laurie
