Bridge Funding for Madeleine Murphy

On October 20th, the Applegate lost a very bright light. As many of you know, our dear Connie was taken from us senselessly and violently last week, killed in the home she had built on the land she had worked for decades. Connie was unique, generous, kind, and caring. She had a brilliant mind and was a natural teacher with a wicked sharp sense of humor who loved sharing her knowledge. Four years ago, Connie finally found her dream job as an editorial manager for the Journal of the American Medical Association and absolutely loved her JAMA family. She also loved gardening, caring for her horses, playing with her beloved Jack Russel Penny, tending to her bees, and working her land. Above all, she loved her daughter, Madeleine.

This unspeakable tragedy has impacted countless lives, but most of all it has impacted Madeleine, or Maddie as many of us know her. Connie and Maddie were not only mother and daughter, they were best friends. Maddie's road to healing from this tragic loss is going to be long and arduous.

Maddie has instantaneously become the primary person in her immediate family responsible for both the land her mother loved and the house her mother built. Unfortunately, Connie had no life insurance policy. Between paying the utilities, maintaining the property, caring for the animals, and handling personal bills, Maddie has been placed under a significant financial burden. To complicate matters, just a few weeks before her mother’s death, Madeleine injured her back, making her unable to work in the immediate future.

All funds contributed to this campaign will go the care of the land, animals, and people that Connie loved most. It will provide a grace period for Madeline’s physical body to heal before going back to work and will ensure that Connie's legacy will be preserved.

Connie was an incredibly generous person--she provided a profound sense of safety and security for many. We know she would want her daughter to feel the same in this tumultuous time.

We hope you'll consider donating and helping Maddie through this tragic loss.

If you would prefer to donate outside of gofundme, direct donations can be made to Madeleine through Venmo at Madeleine-Murphy22.
