Our hearts are broken as we mourn the tragic loss of Lisa Brier Sumnicht Green and we are concerned what comes next for her daughter, Cori Emerald Green.
Lisa Green unexpectedly passed away at her home in Phoenix, AZ on Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 due to respiratory failure. She was a mere 52 years young. Although Lisa was a cancer survivor and her health was fragile due to pulmonary lung issues, her death was sudden and unexpected. It was heartbreaking to hear she had severe difficulty breathing the last few days of her life and knowing she probably avoided going to the hospital due to the pandemic. We pray she did not suffer and know she is still with us in heart, soul and memory.
Lisa is survived by her daughter, Cori Green, currently in Seattle and her brother Grant. Lisa was a loving mom, faithful sister, devoted daughter and dear friend. Lisa called California, Alaska, Hawaii and Arizona home but her heart belonged to Alaska. One thing Lisa often joked about was her ability to save moving boxes. She was definately a master packer for all their moves.
Lisa will be remembered as an incredibly talented artist, an empathetic and loving individual, and the life of the party when she was younger. Cori Indicated that she was an amazing baker. “She loved to bake these beautifully decorated cakes.” She was definitely adventurous and never turned down the opportunity to scuba dive, go snow skiing, sky diving or bungee jumping. Cori said “She was always bubbly. And she was the least selfish person I’ve ever met. She did everything she could to make others happy.” Lisa was also quite the animal lover, a trait she most definitely passed on to her daughter, Cori.
Cori is devasted by the loss of her mom. They shared an amazing bond and Cori was so fortunate to have travelled to visit her mom just a week before her passing to celebrate a belated birthday. Lisa had texted us on June 2nd after Cori went home: “I loved every minute with her...When she flew off to go back home, I cried like a baby! I miss her so bad it hurts!” In that same string of texts Lisa shared about Cori: “She’s so smart, still a straight “A” student. She works so hard and rarely sleeps!” and she shared that Cori is majoring in Genetics & Microbiology as she hopes to save endangered species around the world by studying their genetic diseases. Cori is an amazing young woman who has already done a lot of growing up and she is not even 20.

At this devastatingly difficult time, we sincerely request your generosity in making a donation, in honor of Lisa’s memory, to aid and support her beautiful daughter. We know that there is nothing that we can do to bring her back, but we earnestly hope that we can provide some measure of assurance and security for Cori’s future needs. Besides a small scholarship from her work, Lisa was her only source for college fees.
Cori is college enrolled in Seattle, WA and focusing on a Major in Genetics & Microbiology with a Minor in Zoology. She is a dedicated student and graduated high school 2018, one year early. She took a gap year and traveled to Senegal and Madagascar. She volunteered through Projects Abroad where she helped with rainforest conservation and rebuilt schools.

This fund is created by: Leslie (Goodwin) Mattos, Tammy (Jarvis) Hamm, Bonnie (Blair, Stamm) Young. As lifelong friends of Lisa Brier Sumnicht Green, we made a promise from day one to be Auntie’s to Cori and we have come together to set up this fund for her daughter.

Donations will go directly to her daughter, Cori Emerald Green, to help with end of life costs, celebration of life costs, financial expenses incurred during this unexpected loss, college and future expenses.
You can also send your generosity directly to: 1) Venmo: @LisaBrierSumnichtGreen
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled by Cori at a later date where she can honor Lisa’s favorite things; the ocean, companion animals and most importantly her daughter and shining light Cori.
Please share with all who knew her.
Thank You to everyone for contributing to Lisa’s desire to make her daughter’s life just a little bit easier. And,
Thank You all for your support, thoughts, and prayers
