Michelle's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
In January 2023, Michelle was diagnosed with jaw cancer. The first question most people ask is, “Was she a smoker?” She was not.
The only cancer specialists that could see Michelle within weeks instead of months was the Augusta Cancer Specialist. During tests the doctors determined that Diabetic Neuropathy was being accelerated by prescribed pain medicine. This meant that Michelle couldn't have bone grafted from her leg to rebuild her jaw. Instead, muscle from her chest and a metal bar would need to be used.
Her first surgery was March 14. After four weeks, doctors determined that the surgery was unsuccessful, and Michelle had to undergo another surgery, this time using muscle from her shoulder. She has undergone radiation treatments since the first of May and chemotherapy since mid-May. Following the second surgery, she must see the cancer specialists in Augusta three times a week. It is healing OK but taking a long time. Now speech therapy starts and is expected to continue for at least a year.
The weekly travel, medical supplies and medicines are adding up. Gas alone runs approximately $250 per week. Michelle will be on a feeding tube for a while which requires food supplements.
Though the neuropathy in her legs is getting better, a wheelchair is required for long distances. Currently she is using a wheelchair from her grandfather, but it needs to be replaced. You simply don't realize how much more stuff you need for something like this.
If we could get some help with her expenses, it would be great. She is single, doesn't have any income and has filed for disability. It will take four months to determine if she even qualifies.
Please keep us in your prayers on this journey.
