Matt needs our help!

If you know my friend Matt, then you know he always brings a smile, a kind heart and probably a joke or two wherever he goes. Well Matt and his partner Sarah need our help.

On Thursday, May 19th, Matthew had a blinding headache which came on out of the blue. He went to get evaluated at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, where he has been a nurse for several years. After examination and testing, it was clear Matthew was in danger. The results showed that he had an aneurysm and a subarachnoid bleed. This is in layman’s terms, is a brain bleed. This news has turned Matt and Sarah’s lives upside down. Matthew was transported by ambulance to Boston where he has been since, in the Neuro ICU at Mass General Brigham.

Matthew has thankfully been able to stabilize and have minimal neurological changes. This could have been so much worse as these types of bleeds could cause strokes and even death. As of today, June 1st, he is being transferred out of the ICU and onto a floor unit. This is great news!

Sarah, Matthew’s partner, has been by his side throughout all of this. Staying in Boston and not working to be next to your other half is extremely taxing, emotionally and financially. Matt and Sarah have a long road ahead, and I want to see if we can help at least ease the burden of finances for now. Matt is going to be discharged hopefully soon, but will be unable to work for quite a while and there will most likely be changes in his future employment until more information is known.

Matt has been a Registered Nurse for several years and worked in any unit that needed him during the height of the Covid Pandemic, including the ICU. He has been a kind and gentle hand when people needed him most. Let’s show him some love in return.
