On Friday morning at 6:00 am, Michael Powers—beloved owner of The Original Dog Walking Company in Huntington Beach—was struck by a car near Edinger and Golden West College while walking his own dog and his clients dog. Michael suffered severe injuries and remains in the ICU at UCI Medical Center, fighting through critical surgeries and a long road to recovery.
Michael’s love for animals is extraordinary. A California native who grew up in Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, he has spent his life surrounded by nature and animals of every kind. Together with his wife, Julie, he has built a beautiful life and a trusted small business centered around kindness, patience, and the unconditional love he has for the dogs he cares for. His clients—both furry and human—adore him as part of their family.
Tragically, one dog passed at the scene of the accident. The other two have since been located and are safe at home. While we grieve the loss of a precious life, our focus now is on helping Michael heal.
Michael will require extensive ICU care, surgeries, rehabilitation, and months of recovery. Because he is self-employed, every day he is hospitalized creates significant financial strain. These funds will go directly toward Michael’s medical expenses and to support Julie and the family during this incredibly difficult time so they can focus solely on his healing—not mounting bills or lost income.
Michael is never one to ask for help, but he needs us now. If you know Michael, you know his heart. He shows up for everyone—especially the animals who depend on him. We humbly ask our community to rally around him in his time of need.
Please donate if you are able, and share this link with others who may want to help. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful impact.
Julie will continue to post updates as she is able. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your prayers, love, and support for Michael.
