Support 15-Year-Old Jayashanka’s Life-Saving Transplant

My name is Dr. Dilani Jambuthenne (Tharanga). Today, I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart to ask for your help.

Jayashanka is a 15-year-old boy currently studying in Grade 10 in Puliyankulama, Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. He is the son of my batchmate (Herath Siriyakoon) from University of Peradeniya - Faculty of Agriculture (91/92 Batch).

Jayashanka is battling transfusion-dependent thalassemia, a condition that has taken over his childhood. His only hope for a cure is a haplo-identical bone marrow transplant, a life-saving procedure scheduled to take place at Asiri Central Hospital in Sri Lanka in early 2025. Professor Lallindra Gooneratne (Haematologist) advises that this procedure takes place as soon as possible, as per the letter attached below.

Over the years, these wonderful parents have done their utmost to provide and support their son, however the cost of this transplant is overwhelming—14 million Sri Lankan rupees, equivalent to about $76,000 AUD.

Jayashanka is a bright, resilient teenager with big dreams and a loving family who is doing everything possible to save him. Their strength and love are inspiring, but they can’t do this alone.

Because of this, I am humbly asking for your support to help them achieve this goal. Even a dollar helps. Every dollar you contribute will go directly toward the transplant that could give this little boy the chance to live a healthy, normal life.
