Michaela Beck, US Citizen, from Newnan, GA has been stuck in Malaysia since March 2020, when all flights to the United States were rescheduled then completely cancelled due to the Coronavirus. She had been on a much-needed trip to New Zealand to see her only son whom she hadn’t seen in 4 years. She was on her way home when she had a layover in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia, just as the pandemic hit and all air travel was halted. Her trip home was to be on March 24th.
Naturally the first thing she did was to contact the US Embassy where she was informed no repatriation actions were planned and had no instructions for stranded Americans over there! However, a couple of weeks ago they did notify her that Malaysia would acknowledge a visa extension for her until flights resume.
It has now been over 3 more months since she had planned to be home and may be another few months before there will be any flights again. She did find a room to rent and must also settle for the little food that’s been available. She washes her clothes in a small sink and large items must be hand scrubbed on the floor then hung out to dry on the railing of a “tiny” balcony.
Even though living expenses are less in Malaysia than in the US and being a thrifty person by nature, she needs help to keep her room, food, medications, hygiene needs, and internet on. Her son lost his job due to the pandemic, so I am asking you to please help Michaela. Fortunately, she is in pretty good health and there is a pharmacy there helping her get the meds that she does need.
Michaela was born in Czechoslovakia, speaks 7 languages, has traveled extensively throughout the world and is a very resourceful person but was totally unprepared to have to spend all this extra time and money (her airline ticket back will probably have to be reapplied for since she thinks her airline has gone out of business). She feels helpless, hates being stranded, and wants and needs to get back home.
