Help a Mom of Two Daughters Fleeing Sexual Violence
Donation protected
We know that this is not the most eye-catching GoFundMe that has ever been made. But in the interest of protecting a mother and her daughters who are leaving sexual and family violence, we are doing all that we can to keep them safe and to raise immediate emergency funds to ensure their continued safety as they move through this incredibly difficult time.
Late in the last week of February, our friend was forced to leave her home with her two daughters when it was discovered a live-in family member was sexually abusing one of her young girls. In Supermom Mode, our friend gathered her daughters, some clothing and stuffed animals, called her friends and set out for the police station. Her bravery and the bravery of her girls has been nothing short of incredible and she has reached out to community to ask for support.
In the days that have followed her daughter's report of abuse, our friend has received only brief interim support through Victim's Services, which has included a hotel room where all three have been staying. That stay will end on Tuesday March 4th when she and her daughters will need to find another place to be.
For approximately 8 months, our friend has been on leave from work for and living on a reduced income as a result. Her leave is due to a serious violent incident that occurred while engaged in frontline work and resulted in a diagnosis of PTSD. She has been already on a shoe-string budget and now is having to re-settle her life for the safety of her children and herself.
In community, we are asking for funds to cover the costs of rebuilding a safe and stable life and living space. Funds raised will go directly to:
-immediate Air B&B or hotel stay for at least a month
-childcare
-legal support costs
-first and last month's rent
-grocery costs
-gas
-phone
-miscellaneous personal items, as the bulk of these were left behind
We appreciate your generous donations for our dear friend and her girls. Every little bit counts and will contribute to a safe and secure new beginning for their family.
