Support Shauna's Fight Against Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Shirley and I’m helping to organize this fundraiser for Shauna in her fight with breast cancer. Here is her story:

My name is Shauna Leatherwood. I am 40 years old. I am a wife to my wonderful husband and a mom to three teenage girls that all depend on me. In July, I went for my first mammogram that resulted in a biopsy. That biopsy confirmed breast cancer in my left breast on August 1st. Our world has been turned upside down since then. After lots of doctors appointments and tests, I had surgery for a lumpectomy with lymph node removal and a necessary breast reduction/reconstruction. I am still trying to recover and heal. I am scheduled to start chemotherapy soon, with radiation to follow.

I work full time to provide for my family, but since I am self employed, there is no FMLA or short term disability insurance.

Since my diagnosis, I have missed a lot of work due to doctors appointments and surgery/recovery. I anticipate that I will miss even more work when I start chemotherapy. My precious husband is doing what he can to help and support me, but he is disabled as well.
