On September 26, 2020 my mother, Josie Rekab, was walking down a1a by paradise beach, she was walking on the sidewalk when a maroon Grand dodge caravan pummeled into her and fled the scene, she sustained serious injuries such as: fractured spine, neck, tibia, fibula, and shattered her ankle. She was sent to the hospital where she underwent multiple surgeries in addition to having her head stapled shut. She does not have health insurance , she is a real estate agent so she does not have a salaried job and can not afford the medical bills or the rehabilitation that will be required after. She will not be able to walk for six months to a year and will lose her independence, having to move in with a family member or be cared for around the clock. The suspect who hit her is still at large therefore there is no justice, she is stuck at the hospital being depressed and has medical bills mounting by the day to add to her distress. This is a single, 55 year old woman who has a long road of recovery ahead. Her family and friends care deeply but resources are limited.  Please anything you can donate would help, a dollar helps, five dollars helps, ten dollars helps. The community came together in a beautiful way to try and apprehend the suspect but he is at large and that is only a part of the problem. Whatever you can donate, no matter how small the amount, we will need and be deeply thankful for. This is a small community, and a caring community, please help us in whatever way you can. She won’t have an income, she won’t have her health, she won’t have insurance, she may not even have justice but she will have her community. Thank you for being a part of it.
