Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit The Lanum Family Fund Campaign!
After serving 24 years in the US Marine Corps, my husband, Chris, retired and we made the journey from our home in Okinawa, Japan back to the states. Throwing a dart on the map for a new beginning, we chose Tampa, Florida, and made some stops to visit family along the way.
We visited our Grandfather, and his living conditions were near uninhabitable. We fixed up his home (which then flooded and we ended up losing that home) and brought him to Florida with us. Here in Florida, everything has been a struggle. We were bullied out of our home we were renting, as the landlords wanted to move back in. My husband had a hard time finding work and took a job that was VERY little pay and MANY hours and we just couldn’t keep up with the bills. I stayed home to care for our children and my ailing grandfather. My husband has now lost that job.
Four of our five children are at home with us and get great grades in school and are in Honors classes. Even through the struggles, we couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments and their desires to pursue the good life. I am currently pursuing my PhD and work part time now. Our oldest daughter has been helping us out as well, but she lives in California.
Yesterday, our car was repossessed. We only had one car, as we can only afford one car, but with the multiple moves and loss of work, we got behind and ended up losing our only form of transportation.
I am receiving school monies for living expenses at the end of this month. Sadly, that is too late, as the car will go to auction in 16 days and we will lose it completely, forever.
We are not the type of family who asks for help. We are hardworking Americans, who tried to help another human being out and lost out financially, big time.
We are a very private family, and asking for help is not an easy task. We are asking for some support just to get our car back so that we can drive to our job, interviews and take our children to school.
Any one who is able to help us out, we can reimburse. We do not want hand-outs, just hand-ups.
Your time and assistance is very much appreciated and we cannot tell you enough how much the support means to us and our family.
