The Balons have some exciting news we would like to share with you!
As you know, I have been on quite the journey trying to fix my back issue these past six years.
A little backstory:
In 2011 I severely herniated a disc in my back and in the years following I pursued endless consultations and alternative therapies to address the problem eventually deciding on a L4/L5 microdiscechtomy surgery in 2013. Unfortunately, this surgery was only a pain management band aid to a much bigger mechanical issue, and since the procedure my condition has only gotten worse. Since bringing Simon into the world it has become clear that lifting a child up and down and in and out of cribs will become an overwhelming task as he grows older. In September of last year we realized that we needed to pursue a long term fix for what was wrong with my back so we began investigating our options. What we’ve learned through this discovery process is that a disc replacement is my best option and that the most sophisticated work being done in this area of practice is by world renowned surgeon Dr. Ritter Lang in Bremen, Germany. We’ve spent the last four months researching the validity of this specific disc replacement surgery and though this seems like an unorthodox route to take in finding the best possible care, going to Germany to have this done is indeed the right path. We sent the application in and after three weeks of waiting we’ve received the comprehensive analysis and approval to have the disc replacement procedure done!!
We couldn’t be happier, first with the knowledge that this advanced work is being done, and secondly that we qualify for it. Understandably, our Kaiser Insurance doesn’t cover out of network care and so we are faced with paying for this important work out of pocket. The cost of two weeks worth of pre-op and post-op care including the procedure and all accommodations etc is $39,500. This is a significant expense for us to take on as a new family so we are reaching out to you, our community, to see if you would be willing to support us in helping make this procedure a possibility! Asking for financial help is not something that comes easily for Hana or I but we have been encouraged by multiple friends to do so and have decided to heed their advice.
So, would you be willing to help us? If so, we would be beyond grateful
Again, thank you for your love these past few years and even for considering helping us!
Love to you all!
