Hello,
My name is Will Sasser. I am a first year history/theater teacher at Wright Charter Elementary. I created this page because I am taking on the exciting challenge of starting a wrestling club for grades 3-8 and a middle school team at our school.
As being both a wrestler in middle and high school, as well as assistant coaching the Kenilworth Junior High Team last year, I have witnessed the benefits of how wrestling can influence children's lives and teach them both athletic skills, as well as commitment, discipline, and courage. Students that feel like they do not have a place in their school community, find it on the wrestling mat through hard work and deidcation.
The amount I am asking for is a large amount. This I will not deny. However, all donations would help substanially for our program. Most of my students come from lower-economic backgrounds and 85% of our school qualifies for free lunch. For this reason, students have trouble buying proper sports equipment and do not havethe right facilities for them to train in. The donations would go to the following:
Wrestling Mat (36x36 EZ Flex Mat)- This mat would cover our cafteria area and would allow students to practice daily.
A team set of Wrestling shoes/ headgear- Students would be able to receive proper fitting wrestling shoes and headgear, so they were equipped to compete in local/team tournaments.
First aid/Mat maintanence- This would make sure that I was properly prepared for any injuries related to wrestling, as well as I could keep mats up to proper sanitary conditions, to reduce the chance of any bacterial/skin related issues on the mat.
I know this is a lot to ask, but I know that these students and this community would benefit from such an enriching and disciplined club and team. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Will Sasser
