27 weeks into Krista Peterson’s pregnancy, Baby Clayton was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Disease, “Tetralogy of Fallot”. Within 4 days of Clayton's life, he had to have two stent’s placed to help the blood flow. Clayton went for his monthly Follow up appointment on August 30th with his cardiologist when they noticed that the stents were not working properly, his cardiololgist suggested that the surgery be moved up. Within a week of that appointment, on September 9th, Clayton underwent Open heart surgery at 4 months old. During Surgery the doctors widened the pulmonary valve and enlarged the passage to the pulmonary artery. They also patched over the ventricular septal defect to close the hole between two lower chambers of the heart. This was supposed to improve blood flow to the lungs and the rest of his body. Unfortunley, Clayton's body wasn’t used to the blood flow to his lungs, so he was placed on ECMO. He also started to have irregular heartbeats; he was then placed on an external pacemaker. Within a few days of surgery, Clayton started to have internal bleeding and had to go back in to stop the bleeding. On September 14th he was taken off ECMO, September 16th Clayton was placed on dialysis to give his kidneys a break, and his chest remained open due to swelling and fluid buildup, On September 17th they finally were able to close his chest. Clayton is incomplete heart block so he will require an internal pacemaker. He was supposed to undergo another surgery to place the pacemaker but his white blood cell count was elevated and he developed a low-grade fever indicating an infection, postponing pacemaker placement. His procedure will be scheduled next week if the infection clears. Clayton has been on and off Dialysis, and now the doctors think he might be having seizure activity, so they will be doing an overnight EEG. The Peterson family was told if everything went well, they would only be in the hospital for up to 2 weeks. Clayton has been in the hospital now for nearly a month, he still isn’t out of the woods, and we are still unsure when Clayton will be stable enough to come home. The Petersons are staying at the Ronald Mcdonald house but due to Covid and the restrictions there, they are having to eat out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Krista hasn’t been able to work a full 40 hours in three weeks.
With that being said, we are asking for any donations that anyone can make. But more importantly, we are asking for prayers for healing and prayers for the family.
