We want to tell our daughter's story. Our daughter, Ruby Swain, is a 4 year old little girl who is currently hospitalized at the PICU at Riley Children's Hospital. On Sunday, January 26th Ruby was taken to IU North in Caramel, IN. We quickly found out that her diagnosis of Influenza A had turned into double pneumonia and was septic. Due to the severity of her condition she was then transferred to Riley Children's Hospital in downtown Indianapolis. Due to the her condition she had to be intubated and was put on a ventilator and was put on courses of antibiotics. We began to see some improvement, however, due to the position and severity of the infection in her lungs our team of doctors advised that Ruby be put on ECMO. We are now in a waiting process of trying to give her lungs the time they need to heal. We are told this process could be slow and take time. While here at Riley, we have been blown away with the care and love Ruby, as well as us, have seen from the team of nurses and doctors we have here. They have taken incredible care of her and advocate for her. We could never thank them enough. While we are somewhat local to Riley, we are currently staying at a close by hotel so we can be as close to Ruby as possible. We were sleeping in her room, but now that she is on ECMO, there is no longer space for us to do that in her room. We do not know what the next few weeks hold for Ruby or our family. The money we receive will help cover expenses we have over the next several weeks. More importantly, we ask that you would pray for Ruby. We believe our God is the God of miracles and we believe we will see a miracle for Ruby! We have seen him heal her already along this journey and with the victories we have seen big or small.
