Meet Bentley Tejada — Our 10-Year-Old Boy
Bentley is family. He is loving, gentle, and has been by our side every single day for the past 10 years. We want nothing more than to give him the lifesaving care he needs. It was a difficult decision to reach out for community support, especially for a pet many may never meet, but we have reached a point where we cannot do this alone.
Over the past year and a half, we have spent nearly $15,000 trying to find answers — seeking medical assessments, testing, and treatment plans in hopes of giving Bentley a longer, healthier, more comfortable life. Visit after visit, we continued to receive the same response: “All looks fine.” Yet we knew something was terribly wrong.
Over the past few months, Bentley’s symptoms became impossible to ignore. We rushed him to the ER twice after discovering blood in his urine and noticing a painful growth on his eye. This growth has repeatedly ruptured, filling his eye with blood and affecting his vision.
We did everything we could at home — adjusting his diet, trying new remedies, and replacing bedding and comfort items weekly because of his frequent urination from UTIs and bleeding. Despite our efforts, his condition continued to decline.
After multiple urgent care visits with no answers, one vet finally ran the right tests. We learned that Bentley has bacteria in his blood, which is contributing to severe UTIs, excessive thirst, and abnormal kidney function. These issues have also affected his cognitive function and temperament. We finally understood the full picture — and the urgency.
Bentley now requires two emergent surgeries:
• Removal of the eye growth, including eyelid reconstruction
• Major dental surgery is necessary to address the infection contributing to bacteria in his bloodstream
We have 20 days to schedule and pay for these procedures. If we miss this window, all previous tests will need to be repeated, doubling the overall cost on top of the surgeries. We simply cannot afford to lose this critical timeframe.
Due to Bentley’s pre-existing conditions, pet insurance is not able to help. Most insurances require full upfront payment before any reimbursement, and several have already stated that we would likely receive nothing because Bentley has already been seen by multiple ERs and vets. After exhausting all financial avenues, this GoFundMe is our last hope.
All donations will help us support Bentley through both surgeries, his medications, new dietary needs, ongoing care, and everything required to keep him safe and comfortable during recovery. We have given everything we can — emotionally, physically, and financially — and now we are turning to our community.
We are asking for your support in helping us secure Bentley’s surgeries before the 20-day deadline. Any contribution — big or small — brings us closer to saving his vision, his comfort, and his life. We cannot wait to see our boy return to his playful, loving, energetic, pain-free self.
Thank you for taking the time to read Bentley’s story. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your prayers.
