My name is Jennifer and this is my wonderful husband, John. In late September we visited a local emergency room because John had been suffering with a headache that lasted for two weeks. After describing his symptoms he was wheeled off to have a CT scan. Then a short while later the P.A. delivered a diagnosis that upended our world. "You have brain cancer," she said to my husband. They did a CT scan of his abdomen and found the primary tumor in his colon. He also had a metastasis in his liver, as well as the two areas of concern in his brain. After that things began to move very quickly. Due to the timely intervention of family members in the medical field, John's CT scans were evaluated by a neurosurgeon who advised immediate surgery to remove the largest brain tumor. That occurred on October 3rd. With the sutures still at the base of his skull from the first surgery, John had his second surgery to remove the primary tumor in his colon. With the primary tumor and the largest brain tumor now gone, the next steps will be chemo and radiation. We are hopeful but we know this will be a long and difficult fight. And it will also be an expensive one. I have used up the last of my sick leave to be by his side. And if John has to take some FMLA, that will be unpaid. We have an excellent care team and a wonderful family support system for transportation and home-cooked meals. The area in which we are in the greatest need is financial. Surgery and cancer treatment are very expensive, even with insurance. We have a goal of $10,000.00 to help offset co-pays, co-insurance, and lost income. Thank you for anything you can contribute!
P.S- Get your colonoscopy!
P.P.S-Cancer sucks
